This page includes a wide assortment of general reference information.  Use Online Telephone Directories to find someone's address and Maps to locate an address.  Postal Information helps with links to the Canadian and American post offices.  General Reference links to encyclopedias and dictionaries.  National Libraries links to the the American, Canadian and British national library web sites.  Finally, Career Links are links of special interest in my field of law and librarianship.


Online Telephone Directories

Find someone's telephone number and address with these online directories.  For the United States use Switchboard.com, Anywho (with reverse lookup), or WhoWhere?  For Canada, use Canada411.

Maps

Discover where the address is located with MapQuest - for North America only.

Postal Information

For the United States, the United States Postal Service provides a zip code look up service and a rate guide.  For Canada, Canada Post provides a postal code look up service and also provides rate information.  The American site ZipFind provides further information about zip code locations.

General Reference

The Miriam Webster dictionary and thesaurus are both available online.  The University of Chicago has placed Webster's 1913 unabridged dictionary and Roget's Thesaurus online.

YourDictionary provides a web of online dictionaries including foreign language and specialty online dictionaries.  Lawyer Lloyd Duhaime has provided an internet legal dictionaryBartlett's Quotations is also available on the internet.

The online version of Encyclopedia Britannica provides short informative articles on subject as well as links to further information.  The CIA World Factbook, updated annually, provides a lot of general information about different countries.  Dorling Kindersly's World Desk Reference provides similar information.

Finally, the Voice of the Shuttle is a mega site with links to all sorts of humanities related web pages.

National Libraries

The catalogs and online resources of the national libraries of the western English-speaking nations are available on the internet.  One can see what the Library of Congress, National Library of Canada and the British Library have at their respective web sites.

Career Links

The American Bar Association maintains a list of its approved schools.  The American Association of Law Libraries maintains a job placement page.  The American Theological Library Association (of which I am not a member) maintains a positions open page.
