American Sources

NATIONAL NEWS - CNN Interactive has links to world and US news.  The US News and World Report Online includes links to much of the print magazine's contents.

MAJOR NEWSPAPERS - Most American newspapers are on line. Some of the major ones are the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times (registration required), and the Washington Post.

REGIONAL NEWSPAPERS - Three regional newspapers of interest to me are the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Sacramento Bee and the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner. 

Canadian Sources

NATIONAL NEWS - The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has its CBC news site with both Canadian and world news, and the CBC home site includes links to both news, sports and entertainment.  The National Post online now charges a subscription fee to access most stories.  The Canoe homesite includes links to news, sports and other things, or you can go directly to their CNEWS site which includes both Canadian and world news. The online version of Macleans Magazine provides samples from Canada's national news magazine. Toronto's Globe and Mail is sometimes known as Canada's national newspaper.  CTV television has a news site where you can play news clips.

VANCOUVER NEWS - Vancouver's (my home town) two newspapers are the Vancouver Sun and the Vancouver Province both of which now charge subscription fees to access most stories.

British & Irish Sources

The British Broadcasting Corporation covers both British and world news.  Major British online newspapers include The Times and Sunday Times, the Telegraph Online, the Independent Online, and the Guardian Unlimited.  The Irish Times covers Irish and world news.  

Sports

GENERAL - American sports sources include CNNSI from CNN and Sports Illustrated, ESPN and CBS Sportsline. Canadian sources of sports news include CBC Sports, TSN Online and SLAM! Sports.  The sports leagues have their own web pages, including the NHL, NBA, NFL, and CFL.  Hockey news can be found at Canada.com's hockey page.

VANCOUVER SPORTS - General Vancouver sports coverage can be found at Canada.com's Vancouver sports section.  Vancouver Canucks information can be found at Canada.com's Canuck page (more national coverage), or the Vancouver Canada.com's Canucks page (includes more local stories), and at team pages at the following sites: TSN, CNNSI, CBS Sportsline, ESPN and SLAM! Hockey.  Canucks information can also be found at the Canucks Orca Bay home page and at the Canuck's NHL page.

AMERICAN WEATHER SOURCES - The Weather Channel, Earthwatch, Intellicast Weather, and the Weather Underground provide coverage of United States weather plus some international coverage.

CANADIAN WEATHER SOURCES - Environment Canada and The Weather Network both cover Canadian weather extensively along with some international coverage.

Cartoons

You can find links to almost all cartoons at the Universal Press Syndicate, United Media's Comic Zone or King Features Syndicate.  My favorite comic is Monty (used to be called Robotman, and yes, I am disappointed that Jim Meddick, the author, decided to dispense with the Robotman character), with other favorites including Peanuts, Dilbert, Adam, Bizarro and Doonesbury.
